What is an essential oil?

Today we will showcase another Crafty Mom and her name is Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a distributor of doTerra. dōTERRA® (meaning "Gift of the Earth") essential oils represent the safest, purest essential oils available in the world today.

Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, and flowers of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant, eliciting profound emotional responses. Yet the use of essential oils goes well beyond their fragrant appeal. Used throughout history for their
medicinal and therapeutic benefits, essential oils can be used as natural alternatives in holistic self-care practices.

Elizabeth is sharing with us her favorite scents of the season and they are:

Holiday Joy~ More than just a Fragrance. ~ Holiday Joy is one of our most sought after oil blends during the holiday season because it fills homes with the aroma of the holidays. Some may think that dōTERRA’s Holiday Joy Blend can only be used as a fragrance, but remember that these are essential oils, after all, and each oil in the blend helps to provide many benefits. Let’s take a look at each essential oil in the blend and how they can benefit you: Wild Orange: Great for helping to energize and revitalize your mind and body. Wild Orange also helps uplift your mood and reduces anxiety. Who wouldn’t like those benefits around the holiday?
Pine: Bring the smell of a live Christmas tree into your home. It is antibacterial, which can help reduce the airborne pathogens in your home keeping your family healthy and happy.
Cassia: Historically, Cassia was used and mentioned in Old Testament literature. It contains properties to help maintain physical and emotional well being, and is known for its ability to calm one’s anxiety. Its spicy aroma is also great during the cold months.
Cinnamon Bark: According to a research study, cinnamon essential oil was found to have some of the strongest antimicrobial properties when compared with other essential oils. This oil has been studied to fight viral and infectious disease; and research shows it is difficult for microbes to survive in its presence. It is also one of the essential oils found in dōTERRA’s On Guard Protective Blend to help support your immune system.
Nutmeg: This sweet and spicy aroma does more than just have a wonderful smell, it also helps comforts and sooth your emotional well-being.
Vanilla: Helps calm and relax, uplifts moods, and can help reduce stress, anger, tension, and irritability. Every home could use a little more relaxation instead of tension during the holidays.
Holiday Joy is certainly more than just a fragrance! Make sure to diffuse it in your home to keep your family happy, healthy, and joyful this holiday season.

Easy to make ScareCrow Costume

Easy and CHEAP-
What you need for this Scare Crow Costume
1.  An Old Pair of Overalls-  (got mine at Thrift for $2)
2.  An Old Under Shirt-  (got this one for $1 at Thrift shop)
3.  Burlap- in 2 colors ( I used Green and Natural) -its about $7.99 a yard but you only need a bit
4.  A Fabric of your choice to add to the Scarecrow theme- ( I used a Sunflower Rooster theme)
5.  A Cool Hat-  I had a Great Crafty Friend Make this one ( Shelby Ryan Boutique )

If you don't have a Crafty Friend to make a Hat you can use a Simple Sock Hat and Add Burlap and Flowers- or make a simple hat out of left over burlap.

Now you don't have to have great sewing skills for this- because Messy is Best-
I cut out a Piece of Burlap to hang over the select cut of Fabric- like the Rooster or Sunflower-
or the Great one that says "Everything Grows with Love" to keep with the Garden theme.

To make attaching easier I sewed the fabric to the burlap first- then sewed to the overalls.
I did the Pockets and a couple more with stitches...then I got behind....
So guess what Tool I finished with?

You got it-  The Old Hot Glue Gun-
I added Burlap to the cuff of Legs
I added Burlap to the Cuff of Sleeves
Then I added Burlap to the inside of front and back of overalls so it stuck out as if she was stuffed with straw-
Then I added accents to the Collar and rest of shirt.
I then added Buttons to spots of burlap and Izzy added some too-  So it was fun for her to get to help make her own costume-
The cost of this is so Low- and the best part is that its Comfortable and Wearable-  Not itchy or tight or loose as some off the rack costumes are-  She loves to wear it and can still run, jump, and play in it.

Mommy Confessions- the Meltdown!

I am going to write about this for all the other Moms who may be going through what I am.
This is very personal and sometimes I am quite embarrassed about it.
Do you ever feel like your NOT A GOOD MOM?
Do you ever feel like you Caused your child to behave a certain way?
Do you ever wish everyone would quit telling you what you should do?

I DO!
I have 3 children-
and some very Loved nieces and nephew-  I have been a big part of all of their lives.
I have Gordon- 13,  Sydney 6, and IZZY- 3 (can you tell the child I am going to talk about from this photo?)
I also taught primary and substitute taught for several years, ran a before-after school and summer program, etc... So I should be an expert at raising children right?

Well I am not-  It seems when it comes to my own children I am very challenged!

Izzy apparently LOOKS JUST LIKE ME at her age-  and apparently acts just like me too!
Its so hard to punish your child for acting like you - lol

But seriously she is a CHALLENGE-  She really controls every aspect of our family life with her behavior.
I know I should not allow a 2-3 year old child have that kind of control but what to do???

I put her in Gymnastic this year because she is a wild - active- and extremely flexible little girl.
But I am sure the teachers wish we had not.   She sticks out like a sore thumb-  maybe because she does not go to preschool or daycare- maybe because she is just SPIRITED-  but I think they say her name 50 times a class-  Then there was Hip Hop Class-
Lets just say-  Izzy is no longer taking that class.

When she gets mad- everything has to stop-  She usually drops to the ground and acts like she is paralyzed
She will not communicate so most times I have NO IDEA what is wrong.
I have tried waiting it out- when we can and are not in public-  but when we are in public- OH MY!
My pediatrician asked what I did when she has a meltdown-  I told him the truth-
I ALSO HAVE A MELTDOWN!
We have named her meltdowns the Izzy Tizzy- and her nickname is Izzinator
Her older siblings take any chance to be without her and fear he most of the time.

But don't get me wrong- When she is Happy we eat it up! As its not often or for long-  She loves to have her picture taken and wear lots of different shoes and Dresses!

But when she is like this-  I just want to scream-  and I have-  and then I feel Bad-
Then I have others who parent differently and think that I should spank (which I do) or do what they do with their kids-  I know some who Feed their 3 year old for them if they don't eat-  Whereas Izzy eats on the go and its OK- She does not starve and Some battles I have to pick and choose with her.

Some say maybe she just wants my attention.... but trust me she gets all the attention....this is her for no apparent reason meltdown at my 6 year olds pet day at school.!!!
It makes me want to never leave the house.  But that is not fair to my other children.

And taking her to a restaurant--uggggghhhh....
But it saves us money!
We are the people you sitting next to and your wondering why we don't control our toddler, and the mom does not get to enjoy her food!

So here is what I want to tell you-  No I do not want to raise my children to be robots-  the kind that does not know what to do if not told by a parent-  I know those kids-  their no fun lol
I do not want my children to fear me-  I have been there!
I do want my children to be HAPPY and Respectful
So I have to tell myself I am doing the best I can-  I do not beat, starve, or belittle my children-
I know parents who tell their children they are fat, lazy, etc...when they are angry with them-
I refuse to take that route!
I do yell more than I like-  and A curse word might slip every now and then-  I'm NOT JESUS-  I make mistakes-
But I have to be satisfied that I am doing the best I can-  And not let  those other parents (who I am sure are doing the best they can) make me feel bad or I will fail-  I have to stay strong and Keep at it-
Those tiny little cheeks need me-  And they love me unconditionally- as I love them-  So Don't feel bad but lets Share our experiences- and help one another out instead of judging one another-
Next time you see a child having a meltdown in the store-  Try not to think "OH MY, that mom needs to get that kid under control, etc..."  Think, "Wow that poor mother, I know its hard when your child melts down in public"  Trust me it will help that mom stay calm and collected!

Share with me your Mommy Confessions!

Sunburst Twig Wreath

So I FINALLY created something from START to FINISH that I found on Pintrest This Great Wreath Just looked Too Easy not to try. I planned to make one as a Gift with the kids help for my Mother In Laws Birthday- But Thought this would be a fun Mommy project during our toddler play date. It really was easy and a great NO FAIL Craft Project. We didn't want to spend money so everything but the glue sticks were already around the house! FREE!
Here is the original post that inspired me-  Original Sunshine Wreath

We used the laundry detergent boxes  (FREE) to make our 2 cardboard circles- where we will glue our twigs.
We Went outside to collect twigs- FREE!
Then we broke the twigs down to size- The size will depend on how big or small you want your wreath. Now get a circle shaped something to draw out your cardboard forms- we used a regular
dinner plate- FREE!
We Picked out some old T-shirts (FREE) to make the rolled rosettes out of- she didn't have yellow but the two tones of Orange worked even better! How To Make A Rolled Rosette out of Fabric

We went around once and then went back around to fill in where needed.

Then we Glued the 2nd Cardboard form on top of the sticks to give it more stability and a better
Surface to glue on the Rosettes.

And then the finished product! Quite impressive ya think?

Of course you could add more twigs and other extras if your even more creative!  Not too bad for a Crafty and a Not so Crafty Mom to put together in the same room with a 2 year old boy and girl- 2 instances of Diarrhea,, and more going on.    Please be sure to pin and share- and we would love to see yours after you try too!  Post Your Picture of your Creation Here!
I think we could have picked firmer type twigs to replicate the original but I think its good for our first try!   And For FREE
